Photography Can Improve Your Mental Health

Photography can improve mental health in many ways. Studies have shown that taking pictures can reduce stress, anxiety and depression. It can also help to increase self-esteem and confidence. Photography can also be a great form of self-expression, which can lead to improved mental health.

Taking photos can help you document your life

In today’s world, we are constantly documenting our lives through photos and social media. But have you ever stopped to think about why we do this? When we take photos, we are not just capturing a moment in time, we are also creating a visual record of our lives.

Taking photos can help us document and remember important events in our lives. They can also be a way to connect with other people, as we share our photos with friends and family. And in some cases, photos can even help us make new friends and business connections.

So next time you reach for your camera, remember that you are not just taking a photo, you are documenting your life.

Photography can also be used as a form of self-expression

We often think of photography as a way to capture memories or special moments. But photography can also be used as a form of self-expression. By taking photos of things that interest or inspire you, you can create a unique visual representation of the thoughts and feelings that you had at the time you took the photo.

Photography can be a very therapeutic and liberating activity. It can help you to express yourself in a creative and non-verbal way. And it can be a great way to connect with the world around you. If you’re looking for a new way to express yourself, why not give photography a try?

Photography can help you to connect with others

Photography can be a great way to connect with other people. By taking photos of people and places, you can share your experiences with others and learn about their lives. Photography can also help you to build relationships and create new friendships.

If you’re interested in photography, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, it’s important to practice and get comfortable with your camera. Second, you’ll need to learn about composition and lighting to take great photos. And third, don’t be afraid to experiment – you never know what you might capture.

Magic Still LifeIt can also be used as a form of relaxation

In conclusion, photography can have a positive impact on your mental health. It can help you to express yourself, document your life, and connect with others. Quick side-story – One day recently I became board and frustrated. I was struggling with “Photographers Block”.  I had recently puchased this book on the History of Magic by David Cooperfield. I performed magic as a kid so this was a fun purchase. My way of going back 50 years and capturing that excitement again. The book sat on my coffee table. While in my “lack of creativity” zone, the book caught my eye. I asked myself, “what do I still have boxed up from my days of prestigititation?” (look it up). So, I found my box of props. I still had my Linking Rings, Chop Cup, Wand, and a few other peices I could throw in. It was time for a table-top Still-life shoot.  It turned out to be one of my better sessions. When I look at what came out of that crappy day, I chuckle a little, because on the rare instances I feel that way, I know it won’t last long. Some reach for a pill, some reach for a drink, some reach for a Hostess Ding Dong (guilty on this), I reach for my camera and some good light.
